Hyman Shines Again as Oilers End Senators' Six-Game Streak with 3-1 Victory
Zach Hyman continued his hot streak with a key goal in his sixth consecutive game, helping the Edmonton Oilers secure a 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators, ending the Senators’ impressive six-game winning streak. The victory, held at Rogers Place, was a crucial one for the Oilers, who have been on fire themselves, winning three straight and eight out of their last nine games.
The game kicked off with Viktor Arvidsson putting the Oilers ahead 1-0 in the first period. After Connor McDavid won a battle along the boards, he sent a perfect pass to Arvidsson, who made no mistake in firing it past Senators’ goaltender Linus Ullmark. The Senators didn’t take long to respond, as Nick Cousins tied it up just 25 seconds into the second period. Cousins capitalized on a turnover from Evan Bouchard, breaking free on a breakaway and beating Stuart Skinner with a well-placed shot.

Hyman, however, proved to be the difference-maker once again. On the power play, he pounced on a rebound off an Arvidsson shot and slipped the puck past Leevi Merilainen, who came in to replace the injured Ullmark. That goal, his seventh in six games, gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead. Since returning from a five-game injury absence on December 5, Hyman has been a force for Edmonton, notching 11 points (10 goals, 1 assist) in nine games.
The Oilers weren’t done yet. Early in the third period, Adam Henrique gave them a 3-1 advantage after Mattias Janmark threaded a perfect pass across the crease, allowing Henrique to score high stick-side on Merilainen. The Senators, despite their strong recent form, couldn’t respond and were left frustrated by the Oilers' defensive and offensive efficiency.
Edmonton's goaltender Stuart Skinner played an important role, making 21 saves and holding off any late pushes by Ottawa. The Senators, coming off a 5-4 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks the night before, couldn’t find their rhythm after Ullmark’s departure. Merilainen, in relief, stopped 12 of 14 shots but couldn’t prevent the Oilers from closing out the game with a solid lead.
For the Oilers, it was another strong performance, led by Hyman's continued brilliance. With the win, they extended their strong form and demonstrated they’re ready to compete with the best in the league.
