Wallace & Gromit are back, and with their return comes a heartfelt moment of transition. For the first time, the beloved inventor Wallace will be voiced by someone other than Peter Sallis, whose iconic performance helped define the character for decades. Sallis passed away in 2017, leaving an irreplaceable legacy. Yet, Ben Whitehead, the talented voice actor stepping into the role, has brought a fresh but respectful approach to continuing this cherished character’s story.

Nick Park, creator of Wallace & Gromit, admits that working on the new feature Vengeance Most Fowl without Sallis has been emotional. Sallis had a distinctive voice that resonated with generations of fans, making his absence deeply felt. However, Park expresses confidence in Whitehead’s ability, describing his performance as so seamless that it’s hard to tell the voices apart. Whitehead, who previously worked with Sallis on The Curse of the Were-Rabbit , has spent years honing his interpretation of Wallace, blending Sallis's original mannerisms with his own touch.

For Whitehead, the challenge was immense. “Enormous pressure!” he shares. He delved into Sallis's vocal quirks and found creative methods to capture the character’s essence. A simple word—"cheese"—served as his “trigger” to slip into Wallace's iconic Yorkshire accent. His dedication shines in the small details, from the elongation of vowels to the subtle “hee-hees” that punctuate Wallace’s speech.

Fans eagerly awaited this return, and Vengeance Most Fowl delivers classic Wallace & Gromit humor. The story introduces Norbot, a voice-controlled smart gnome, whose malfunction sparks chaos, alongside the return of Feathers McGraw, the cunning penguin villain. These elements revive the playful, inventive charm that has made the franchise timeless.

While this is not a goodbye to Wallace & Gromit, it is a significant chapter in their legacy. With Whitehead taking the reins, supported by Nick Park and the Aardman team, the iconic duo continues to delight audiences, proving that their claymation world still has plenty of bounce in its bungee. Vengeance Most Fowl airs this Christmas, promising another unforgettable adventure.
