ISL 2024-25: Saul Crespo Likely to Miss Two Weeks After Muscle Injury in Chennaiyin FC Win
In a recent Indian Super League (ISL) encounter between East Bengal FC and Chennaiyin FC, a key player for East Bengal, Saul Crespo, suffered an unfortunate injury that is expected to keep him out for at least two weeks. The Spanish midfielder was stretchered off the field after a muscle injury in the second half, following a foul in the 56th minute. Despite this setback, East Bengal managed to secure a 2-0 victory against Chennaiyin FC, marking an important three points in their season.
Crespo had been instrumental in the match, setting up East Bengal's opening goal just moments before his injury. A well-timed assist from him allowed PV Vishnu to slot the ball home in the 54th minute. However, things took a worrying turn for the Red and Golds when Crespo went down, clutching his leg after the foul. The medical team quickly attended to him, and he was carried off the field, visibly in discomfort.

Head coach Oscar Bruzon later confirmed that the initial assessment pointed to a muscle pull, and Crespo would undergo further scans to determine the extent of the injury. While the exact timeline remains uncertain, it appears Crespo will be sidelined for about two weeks. This loss is a blow for East Bengal, as the 28-year-old has been a regular starter, featuring in all nine of the club’s games this season.
Despite the injury to Crespo, East Bengal continued their solid performance. They managed to maintain their composure and capitalize on the momentum gained from their early goal. Jeakson Singh, who replaced Crespo after his injury, sealed the win with a stunning long-range goal in the 84th minute. The victory moved East Bengal up to the 11th position in the points table and gave them a much-needed confidence boost ahead of their upcoming home games.
Bruzon and his team will now focus on their next matches, including an important home fixture against Odisha FC. With Crespo out for the short term, the team will be hoping for a swift recovery and a continued strong performance in the coming weeks.
