Israel Decimates Syrian Navy in Major Military Campaign
In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Israel has delivered a crushing blow to Syria's military infrastructure, wiping out 80% of its forces, including the entire Syrian navy. Over a relentless two-day campaign dubbed "Bashan Arrow," the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched over 350 strikes targeting key military assets, effectively crippling the Assad regime’s defense capabilities.
This large-scale operation unfolded as Syrian opposition forces toppled Bashar al-Assad’s regime, seizing control of Damascus after years of civil war. The IDF strategically dismantled air defenses before striking weapon depots, missile facilities, and other critical infrastructure in major cities like Homs, Tartus, and Latakia. Notably, the Israeli Navy annihilated 15 Syrian naval vessels, effectively erasing the nation's maritime defense capacity. The IDF justified these actions as measures to prevent advanced weapons from falling into the hands of extremist groups during Syria's turbulent political transition.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the strikes were aimed at securing Israel’s safety, warning the new Syrian regime against allowing Iran or Hezbollah to gain a foothold. While extending an offer to establish diplomatic ties with Syria’s interim government, Netanyahu also issued a stark ultimatum: any resurgence of threats to Israel’s security would be met with decisive action.
Meanwhile, Syria’s interim leadership, headed by Mohamed al-Bashir of the rebel coalition Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), seeks to restore stability. Al-Bashir has pledged a smooth transitional governance period, set to conclude in March, and aims to engage with international stakeholders.
The military offensive has drawn international condemnation. The UN has urged Israel to halt its operations, while neighboring countries like Turkey and Jordan have accused Israel of exploiting Syria's instability. Despite these critiques, Israeli officials remain firm, framing the campaign as a necessary action to neutralize potential threats.
