Jordan North's Heroic Rescue from the River Thames After Saving a Dog
Radio DJ Jordan North, well-known for his time on BBC Radio 1 and his participation in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! , found himself in a dramatic and life-threatening situation recently. While out for a run near Hammersmith Bridge in West London, he noticed a Labrador dog struggling in the River Thames. Driven by instinct, North immediately jumped into the water to try to rescue the animal, but the situation quickly became precarious.

As he attempted to keep the dog afloat, North began to feel overwhelmed by the cold water and the difficulty of holding on. Describing the moment, he confessed on his Capital Breakfast show, "I was getting a bit panicky. I thought my legs were going to give way, and I couldn’t hold on much longer." Fortunately, the crew from the Chiswick RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution), who were on a training exercise nearby, were quickly alerted by members of the public. Within just three minutes, they reached North and the dog, rescuing both from the water.
North, who has always been a champion for heroes like the RNLI, expressed deep gratitude for the lifesaving team. "A massive shout out to the RNLI Chiswick. They came and rescued me just in time. The real heroes are them," he said, sharing the experience with his listeners. He was then wrapped in a blanket for warmth and comfort by the RNLI crew, who had safely brought both the DJ and the dog back to shore.
RNLI Thames Commander Gavin Simmons reflected on the rescue, emphasizing the importance of their role in saving lives on the water. "We're always on call 24/7 to assist anyone in distress, even our beloved pets," he said, adding that while the public should never attempt to enter the water themselves, the crew was glad to assist in this particular situation. Video footage of the rescue, captured by members of the public holding up their phone torches to guide the lifeboat crew, shows the tense but successful operation.
North’s experience serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of emergencies and the vital role of lifesaving organizations like the RNLI. After the event, North continued to praise the team's professionalism, adding, "They got to me just in time, and I am so grateful for their help. Without them, this could have ended very differently."
