Luc Lavoie Arrested in Connection with Alleged Incident in Saint-Lambert
Luc Lavoie, a prominent political columnist for TVA, has recently made headlines after being arrested in the early hours of December 8, 2024, following a dispute at a residence in Saint-Lambert, located on the South Shore of Montreal. According to the Longueuil Police Department (SPAL), the incident occurred around 2:20 AM when Lavoie, a 69-year-old man, allegedly harassed a 54-year-old woman he knew. The police were called to the scene following reports of a "chicane" or quarrel between the two individuals.
While the police did not initially confirm the identity of the man involved, Cogeco Nouvelles quickly reported that it was indeed Luc Lavoie. The police confirmed that the individual was arrested the same day and may face charges of breaking and entering as well as criminal harassment. After his arrest, Lavoie was released on a promise to appear in court, with specific conditions attached to his release.

In the wake of the incident, TVA and LCN, two major news networks owned by Quebecor, announced that Lavoie would be stepping down from his roles on these networks while the investigation is ongoing. This includes his regular appearances as a political columnist. His legal team, however, has expressed surprise at the situation, stating that the incident was a personal matter that escalated into a criminal complaint. They emphasized that Lavoie plans to vigorously defend himself against any charges.
Luc Lavoie is a well-known figure in Canadian journalism, particularly for his coverage of federal politics. Before his career as a columnist, he served as a parliamentary correspondent and held an important position as deputy chief of staff to former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. He later moved into executive roles within Quebecor, and more recently, returned to the public eye as a prominent commentator.
