Luke Littler Triumphs in Thrilling World Darts Championship Battle to Reach Quarter-Finals
The 2025 PDC World Darts Championship has delivered a thrilling encounter as 17-year-old Luke Littler fought through a dramatic 4-3 victory over Ryan Joyce, securing his place in the quarter-finals. Despite not being at his best, Littler displayed remarkable resilience and determination, ultimately overcoming Joyce in a thrilling decider. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Littler showing flashes of brilliance but struggling with his finishing throughout the contest. His woes on doubles were evident, as he missed several opportunities, only converting 14 out of 48 attempts. However, his composure under pressure in the final set was crucial to his success.
Littler, who was seeded fourth, won the first, third, and fifth sets, but each time Joyce managed to fight back, taking the match to a decisive seventh set. In that final set, Littler stepped up his game, averaging a superb 110, and took the last leg 3-1 to claim the victory. His average of 103.14 for the match was the third-highest of the tournament, though his inconsistency on doubles could be a potential vulnerability as he advances further in the competition.

Reflecting on his win, Littler admitted it had been a tough challenge, saying, "I went into 10th gear at one point, I had to. Ryan hit everything at me!" His victory now sets up a quarter-final showdown with 12th seed Nathan Aspinall, a familiar rival. Littler acknowledged the tough competition ahead, remarking, "We've played each other many times before, and we know how we can play."
Littler’s progress in the tournament is all the more impressive considering his near-miss in the 2024 final, where he finished as the runner-up. As the highest-seeded player left in his side of the draw, Littler will need to continue improving his finishing if he is to secure his first World Championship title. His match against Aspinall will be a highly anticipated clash, with both players being in fine form.
This victory also adds to the excitement of the tournament, which has already seen several thrilling matches, including Michael van Gerwen’s 4-2 win over Jeffrey de Graaf and Stephen Bunting’s dominant 4-0 victory over Luke Woodhouse. Van Gerwen, the three-time champion, continues his bid for another title, while Bunting and Aspinall look to make their mark as well. The 2025 World Darts Championship is shaping up to be an unforgettable event, and with Littler still in the hunt, the stage is set for more incredible drama as the tournament moves towards its final stages.
