Mesmerizing Lights and Music: Pink Talking Fish Illuminate Infinity Hall
The legendary Infinity Hall in Hartford, USA, recently hosted a sold-out performance by Pink Talking Fish, a tribute band that brilliantly combines the music of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish. Known for their electrifying renditions of these iconic bands, the group added a delightful twist by incorporating Beatles classics into their repertoire. The evening was a sensory delight, with New Hampshire-based lighting designer Brian Courchine orchestrating a visual feast that perfectly complemented the band’s diverse setlist.
Courchine, who has earned a reputation for his exceptional use of color in musical settings, brought his expertise to this special event. His approach to lighting is deeply influenced by the unique aura each band’s music exudes. For Talking Heads’ straightforward grooves, he employed a controlled and consistent palette, creating a steady and grounded ambiance. On the other hand, Pink Floyd’s dramatic and expansive compositions were matched with a dynamic display of light—from intimate solo spotlights to breathtaking explosions of vibrant gobos that filled the room. Phish’s improvisational essence was reflected in Courchine’s intuitive and free-flowing lighting, influenced by years of observing the band’s lighting maestro, Chris Kuroda.

The Beatles’ songs, integral to this performance, received a unified color treatment that paid homage to their psychedelic and timeless style. A standout moment was the rendition of Tomorrow Never Knows , where Courchine mimicked the vintage oil projection effect using swirling gobos and a prism, evoking a sense of nostalgia and artistic innovation.
Central to the show’s visual brilliance were 32 Chauvet Professional Rogue fixtures. Courchine used eight R1 Spots and eight R1 Washes in his floor package, complementing the venue’s house rig of eight R2 Spots and eight R1 Washes. These fixtures created a textured, multi-hued backdrop that enhanced the stage’s vibrancy without overshadowing the band. By carefully positioning lights to avoid interference with the backdrop, Courchine maintained a balance between lighting artistry and the audience's immersive experience.
The performance at Infinity Hall was a vivid example of how music and lighting can intertwine to elevate live entertainment.
