Multi-Vehicle Accident Closes Highway 99 in Both Directions
Highway 99, a vital artery for many commuters, has been shut down in both directions following a severe multi-vehicle collision near the Highway 91 interchange. This incident occurred in the busy Mud Bay area of Surrey and Delta, creating significant disruption during the evening rush hour on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Emergency response teams, including police, fire services, and paramedics, were on-site to handle the situation and provide medical assistance.
Reports indicate that the collision involved several vehicles, with at least one semi-truck possibly being part of the crash. Although specific details regarding the cause of the accident remain unclear, B.C. Emergency Health Services confirmed that their teams were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m. Their response included four ambulances staffed with primary care paramedics, three with advanced care paramedics, an air ambulance carrying critical care paramedics, and a supervisor. In total, seven individuals received emergency medical treatment at the scene. Of these, five were transported to local hospitals, with two individuals reported to be in critical condition and three in stable condition.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) issued a statement around 6:30 p.m., warning that the highway was expected to remain closed for several hours. Officers are currently investigating the crash while fire crews assist with clearing the scene. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes as authorities continue their work.
