MVV Prepares for a Thrilling Cup Clash Against Feyenoord in De Geusselt
As the clock ticks down to one of the most anticipated matches of the year, MVV Maastricht is gearing up for a historic KNVB Cup showdown against Dutch powerhouse Feyenoord. After 25 years, MVV will once again face a traditional top-three club in their home stadium, De Geusselt, and the excitement surrounding this match is palpable.
Interim director Jean Boelen, who has been leading the charge in organizing the event, shared his enthusiasm as he walked us through the preparations. "It's a dream come true," Boelen exclaimed, clearly excited about the upcoming fixture. "For the fans who haven't seen a match like this in 25 years, and for the team, it's a magnificent opportunity." The financial boost from this high-profile game is also a key aspect. The club will receive 100% of the match's net proceeds, a significant benefit compared to the revenue-sharing in later rounds of the competition.
The ticket sales for this monumental cup tie have been nothing short of extraordinary. Tickets were sold out within just half an hour during the second round of sales, after quickly flying off the shelves for season ticket holders and fans who purchased tickets for previous home matches. "I don't remember tickets selling this fast," said Boelen, reflecting on the overwhelming demand. The sold-out crowd will fill the stadium with 8,500 spectators, including 400 passionate Feyenoord supporters making the trip from Rotterdam.

MVV is not only focused on the match itself but also creating an unforgettable fan experience. The stadium will open 90 minutes before the match to allow fans to enjoy pre-game entertainment, featuring live performances by local artists and exciting activities. Additionally, there will be special merchandise available, including limited edition hard cups featuring both the MVV and Feyenoord logos, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Given the increased crowd size, safety measures have been ramped up. The club is working closely with local authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. This includes an increase in the number of stewards and security personnel, with 35 additional staff members dedicated to maintaining order throughout the event. "Our goal is to make this a celebration for everyone," Boelen noted.
The event has also attracted significant attention from the media, with national outlets covering the game. ESPN will be broadcasting the match live, bringing in a sizable team of 30 crew members and multiple cameras to capture every moment of the action.
Inside the stadium, preparations continue as the club makes necessary adjustments to accommodate both teams. Due to limited space, two dressing rooms have been set aside for the visiting Feyenoord team, with MVV also using two rooms for their players. While the facilities may not rival those of a Champions League stadium, everything is functioning as expected, and no special requests have been made by the Rotterdam giants.
As for Boelen's prediction for the match, he remains hopeful but realistic. "Normally, we lose in the final minute, but this time, it would be a dream to win in the last minute," he said with a smile.
The highly anticipated cup clash between MVV and Feyenoord will kick off on Tuesday at 21:00 and promises to be an unforgettable night for the fans and the players alike. The match will be available to follow live on L1 Radio, with the broadcast beginning an hour earlier at 20:00. For MVV, it's not just about football—it's about making history and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
