Iron Maiden’s legendary drummer, Nicko McBrain, has officially announced his decision to retire from the demanding touring life after more than four decades of iconic performances with the band. The announcement came on December 7, 2024, marking the end of an era for Iron Maiden, with McBrain’s final performance taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on the last night of their "Future Past" tour. He expressed immense gratitude to the band’s loyal fan base, calling the past 42 years “an incredible journey.” His love for his fans, family, and bandmates was clear in his message: “To my devoted fan base, you made it all worthwhile and I love you! Additionally, McBrain will focus on personal ventures such as The British Drum Company, Nicko McBrain’s Drum One, Titanium Tart, and his Rock-N-Roll Ribs restaurant. His message ended with optimism for the future, saying, “I look into the future with much excitement and great hope! I’ll be seeing you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, ‘Up the Irons!’”
Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden’s manager, shared a touching tribute to McBrain, calling him an “irrepressible force behind the drum kit” and a lifelong friend. Smallwood praised McBrain’s legacy, especially his incredible connection with the Brazilian fans, and expressed deep gratitude for the 42 years they shared. “We will miss you immensely!” Smallwood wrote on behalf of the band, reflecting on the unforgettable moments, from massive concerts to gold and platinum records, and even “one beer too many” on occasion.

While a new drummer will soon be announced, McBrain’s unique contribution to Iron Maiden will forever be part of the band’s indelible legacy.
