Tragic Incident of Alcohol Poisoning at Fiji’s Luxury Warwick Resort Raises Alarming Concerns
A chilling incident unfolded at the Warwick Resort in Fiji, where four Australians were hospitalized after suffering from suspected alcohol poisoning. This shocking event occurred on Saturday evening, when a group of seven tourists, aged between 18 and 56, experienced severe symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and neurological distress after consuming cocktails, particularly a pina colada served at the resort. The guests, including the Australians, were rushed to Sigatoka Hospital, with two individuals being transferred to Lautoka Hospital due to the worsening condition of their symptoms.
The family of one of the victims, David Sandoe, shared their terrifying experience. His daughter, Tanya, and granddaughter, Georgia, were among the affected. Georgia, only 19, even experienced a brief seizure, heightening the family's fears. Tanya, who suffers from a pre-existing blood condition, caused her father further concern. It wasn’t until later that they were relieved to learn that both Georgia and Tanya had been medically cleared to travel back to Australia.

The focus has turned to the cocktails served at the Warwick Resort, specifically the pre-packaged pina colada cocktails from the Suva Wing Bar. This incident has sparked echoes of a recent tragedy in Laos, where two young Australians died from methanol poisoning after drinking contaminated alcohol. While the current incident in Fiji has not been definitively linked to methanol, it has raised alarms globally about the risks associated with alcohol abroad.
The Fiji government has expressed confidence that this case is an isolated incident, with no other similar occurrences reported at the resort or elsewhere in Fiji.
