Two Vehicles Set Ablaze in Montreal – Investigation Underway
Late Sunday night, two separate vehicle fires erupted in Montreal, raising suspicions of criminal intent. The incidents, which occurred just hours apart, have prompted a police investigation but thankfully resulted in no injuries.
The first incident was reported around 10 PM on Sunday in the parking lot of the Langelier shopping center, located in the borough of Saint-Léonard. Upon arrival, firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, but the damage was catastrophic. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. According to police spokesperson Mariane Allaire-Morin, evidence at the scene suggested potential arson, leading authorities to transfer the case to the criminal arson division of the Montreal Police Service (SPVM).

Approximately two hours later, another vehicle fire broke out in the borough of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Gr'sce, this time in the parking area of Plaza Côte-des-Neiges. Witnesses reported the blaze around 12:30 AM on Monday. As firefighters worked to contain the flames, it became apparent that the fire had also damaged a nearby vehicle. While the primary vehicle was completely destroyed, the secondary vehicle sustained significant damage. Police have yet to determine the cause of this fire, and it, too, has been handed over to the SPVM’s arson investigation team.
In both cases, the vehicles were towed away for further forensic examination. As of early Monday morning, no arrests had been made, and the investigations are ongoing.
The timing and similarities between these two incidents have fueled speculation about a possible connection. Both fires occurred in commercial parking lots and targeted parked vehicles. While authorities have not yet confirmed any link, the rapid succession of events has undoubtedly drawn attention.
This spate of vehicle fires adds to recent incidents in Montreal, highlighting the importance of vigilance and community cooperation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding these alarming events.
