WPL 2025 Auction: Uncapped Indian Talent Shines, Big Names Left Unsold
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction was a day of surprises and breakthroughs as uncapped Indian players stole the show, grabbing massive deals and turning heads with their potential. Held in Bengaluru, this year's auction highlighted the league's increasing focus on nurturing young talent, with established stars like Sneh Rana, Heather Knight, and Lizelle Lee surprisingly going unsold.
Among the standout moments was the acquisition of Mumbai all-rounder Simran Shaikh by the Gujarat Giants for a staggering ₹1.9 crore. Simran, who had a base price of ₹10 lakh, sparked a bidding war between the Giants and Delhi Capitals before landing in the Giants' camp. Known for her power-hitting and ability to clear the ropes, she was a key target for Gujarat, with coach Michael Klinger describing her as a critical addition to their top order.

Mumbai Indians also made headlines by picking 16-year-old Tamil Nadu batter G Kamilini for ₹1.6 crore. Kamilini’s stellar performances in domestic and Under-19 tournaments caught the eye of scouts, solidifying her as a promising future star. Uttarakhand leg-spinner Prema Rawat was another notable pick, acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹1.2 crore. Her skills as both a bowler and an exceptional fielder made her a valuable addition.
The overseas players also had their share of attention, with West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin fetching ₹1.7 crore. Dottin, controversially excluded from the Gujarat Giants after the league’s inaugural season, was brought back into the fold, signaling a fresh start for the experienced cricketer.
In total, 19 players were sold, including five overseas talents, while big names like England captain Heather Knight and India’s Sneh Rana surprisingly found no takers. This shift indicates a growing emphasis on younger, uncapped players who bring fresh energy and untapped potential to the league.
Teams like Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians rounded out their squads with smart, calculated buys. Delhi picked up Scotland’s Sarah Bryce and uncapped Indian bowler N Charani, while Mumbai invested in South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz made strategic late picks, adding Australian leg-spinner Alana King to their roster.
