Carson Beck Chooses Miami for Final College Football Season after Leaving Georgia
In a bold move that has captured the attention of college football fans, Carson Beck, the former Georgia quarterback, has announced he will transfer to Miami for the 2025 season, marking his final year of eligibility. After initially declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, Beck made the surprising decision to enter the transfer portal just days before his draft declaration. His announcement came on January 10, 2025, as he confirmed his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes.
Beck’s decision comes after a season-ending injury during Georgia's SEC title game against Texas in December 2024. In the first half of the game, Beck suffered an elbow injury when he was hit while attempting a deep pass. The injury forced him out for the remainder of the game, and he also missed the Bulldogs' Sugar Bowl loss to Notre Dame. This injury was a setback for Beck, especially as he was competing for Georgia’s starting quarterback position for the 2025 season. In his absence, Gunner Stockton filled in as the starter for the Bulldogs, leading them through the SEC Championship and their bowl appearance.

Throughout the 2024 season, Beck faced challenges as a quarterback. After a stellar 2023 campaign, where he passed for nearly 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns, the 2024 season was more of a struggle. With key players like Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey leaving for the NFL, Beck’s numbers took a significant dip. He finished 2024 with 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns, but his interceptions increased drastically, from six in 2023 to twelve in 2024. Despite these struggles, Beck’s decision to leave Georgia indicates his desire for a fresh start and the opportunity to improve before potentially declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Interestingly, his move to Miami could open new doors for Beck. While he is likely to miss spring practice due to his elbow injury, his transfer gives him a chance to reset and showcase his talent in a new system. His transfer to the Hurricanes could provide a similar success story to that of Cam Ward, who transferred to Miami, later becoming a Heisman finalist and a top NFL Draft prospect. Beck’s journey will be one to watch, especially as the 2025 ACC season unfolds.
With Miami's open quarterback competition and the ACC expected to remain wide open, Beck could find himself in a favorable position if he can stay healthy and put together a strong final season. His decision to stay in college, rather than jump into the NFL Draft with limited playing time, shows a calculated effort to improve his draft stock. If Beck performs well, he could end up a stronger prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft, which could be the career move he’s looking for.
