Conor McGregor and Brook Lopez Have a Courtside Faceoff at NBA Game
Conor McGregor knows how to make an entrance, and he proved it once again during an NBA game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Utah Jazz. In a moment that caught the attention of fans and players alike, the former UFC champion decided to take a stroll courtside—while the game was still in play. And what happened next? A faceoff with Bucks center Brook Lopez that had everyone talking.
It all went down as McGregor casually walked along the Bucks’ bench, locking eyes with players before stopping in front of the towering 7-foot-1 Lopez. Despite the 16-inch height difference, McGregor wasn’t about to back down. He asked Lopez to stand up, and the NBA big man obliged. Suddenly, we had a staredown right in the middle of an NBA game, something you’d expect at a UFC weigh-in rather than courtside at a basketball match.

Lopez later shared his take on the encounter, explaining that he felt like he had to play along. "He asked me to stand up, and I did," Lopez said. "At that point, I had to size him up. I’ve seen the faceoffs before, so I knew I had to do my part." His response had a joking tone, but the moment itself was surreal. Even the cameras had to adjust to fit both men into the frame.
McGregor, ever the entertainer, also spent time chatting on the live broadcast, interacting with Bucks players, and shaking hands with fans. It was classic McGregor—blurring the lines between sports, entertainment, and showmanship. The Irish superstar hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2021 after suffering a broken leg, but he remains a larger-than-life presence wherever he goes.
Of course, McGregor’s recent public appearances haven’t all been positive. He’s currently facing a lawsuit stemming from an alleged incident during the 2023 NBA Finals, making it somewhat surprising that an NBA team would welcome him courtside. But controversy has never stopped McGregor from stealing the spotlight, and this moment with Lopez only added to his never-ending list of viral moments.
Would we ever see Lopez and McGregor in an actual fight? Probably not, but for a few seconds in Utah, it sure looked like a prelude to something bigger. Either way, McGregor once again made sure all eyes were on him—whether the game was happening or not.
