Daughter of Dominique Pelicot Reveals Trauma and Strength in Exclusive Interview
In a heart-wrenching and exclusive interview, Caroline Darian, the daughter of Dominique Pelicot, spoke out about the unspeakable horrors she and her family endured after discovering her father’s horrific crimes. What was once a picture-perfect family life shattered completely in November 2020 when Darian received a phone call that would change her life forever. On the other end of the line, her mother, Gisèle Pelicot, revealed that she had learned of Dominique’s years-long abuse. He had been drugging her, enabling dozens of men to sexually assault her while she was unconscious.
Caroline, now 46, recounted the moment with deep pain. “At that moment, I lost what was a normal life,” she recalled, describing the overwhelming emotions of disbelief and devastation that engulfed her. She was thrust into a nightmarish reality when she learned that her father, a man she once saw as her protector, was responsible for unspeakable crimes. The shock was so immense that she described it as an earthquake, a tsunami that swept away the life she once knew.
Dominique Pelicot, a retired grandfather, was later arrested after his involvement in a supermarket upskirting incident. Investigators found a trove of videos and images on his laptop, showing his wife Gisèle unconscious, assaulted by countless men. The trial, which spanned more than three months, ended with Pelicot being sentenced to 20 years in prison, but the horrors didn’t stop there. Darian herself was confronted with two disturbing images found on her father’s computer, showing an unconscious woman who, it was revealed, was her.

“I knew that he drugged me, probably for sexual abuse. But I don't have any evidence,” Caroline shared in the interview. Though there is no concrete proof of what her father did to her, Darian is deeply convinced that she too fell victim to his abuse. In the face of such a reality, Darian has devoted her life to raising awareness of chemical submission—the use of drugs to facilitate sexual assault—a topic that was sadly underreported before her father's crimes came to light.
The trial has been a difficult ordeal for Darian and her family. While her mother, Gisèle, has garnered admiration for her bravery in publicly exposing the abuse, Caroline faces the immense challenge of reconciling her relationship with her father. “I can’t keep hold of those memories,” Darian admitted, explaining how difficult it is to see her childhood in the same light, knowing the man she once called a father was capable of such unimaginable acts.
In addition to her own personal trauma, Darian has worked tirelessly to help others who may have faced similar abuse. She has written a book titled I'll Never Call Him Dad Again , which delves into her family’s anguish and the broader issue of drug-facilitated sexual violence. Through her advocacy, Darian has found a way to channel her grief into a cause she believes will help protect other vulnerable individuals.
Looking forward, Darian is determined to rebuild her life. Although she carries the burden of being the daughter of both the victim and the perpetrator, she is committed to finding strength and hope in her loved ones, including her husband, brothers, and young son. The pain may never fully dissipate, but through her advocacy and the support of her family, Caroline Darian is pushing forward with resilience.
