Derbyshire Entrepreneur Wins £50,000 Investment for Football Shirt Business on Dragons' Den
Alex Street, a football enthusiast and entrepreneur from Derbyshire, has secured a £50,000 investment for his business, Mystery Jersey King, after a successful pitch on the BBC's Dragons' Den. His company, which specializes in selling rare and distinctive football shirts through mystery boxes, captivated the Dragons, particularly Sara Davies, who offered him the funding in exchange for 15% of the business.
Founded in 2021, Mystery Jersey King delivers unique football shirts from around the world to customers, either through one-off purchases or a subscription model. Alex's passion for football memorabilia started in his childhood, when his father would buy shirts from every place they visited, igniting his fascination with these rare items.

Entering the Dragons' Den was no small feat for Alex. Despite his nerves, he remained true to himself during the pitch. He openly admitted to not knowing all the details about his business's key numbers, which nearly derailed his pitch. However, his raw honesty and enthusiasm won over the panel. Sara Davies, a well-known figure in the business world, saw potential in Alex's business, recognizing its massive appeal both in the UK and abroad. She was particularly excited about the idea of a mystery shirt subscription box for her sons, which helped seal the deal.
For Alex, securing Sara's backing was a dream come true. In the Den, he had been aware of how important it was to impress the investors, and despite a shaky start, he had prepared well and was confident in the future potential of his business. With Sara’s support, he is now planning to scale up Mystery Jersey King and is particularly focused on expanding into the US market, where Sara already has a significant presence.
The £50,000 investment will help Alex and his co-founder, Jamie King, optimize their operations and boost their purchasing power, making it easier to grow their customer base. Their next big goal is to continue delivering the best customer service while managing the surge of orders that have come in following the airing of the episode.
Reflecting on the experience, Alex described his time in the Den as an emotional roller coaster. Despite the challenges of pitching in such a high-pressure environment, he was encouraged by Sara’s support and the advice offered by all the Dragons. He has also been invited to a retreat hosted by Sara, where he connected with other successful entrepreneurs who had appeared on the show.
The response to the episode has been overwhelming, and Alex is excited about what the future holds for Mystery Jersey King. As the business moves forward, Alex and Jamie are ready to tackle their next challenges with renewed confidence, bolstered by the backing of one of the most successful investors in the UK.
