Former Child Star Rory Sykes Tragically Dies in LA Wildfires
The news of the tragic passing of Rory Sykes, a former child star, has stunned many. Rory, who was blind and had cerebral palsy, lived in a self-contained cottage near his mother’s property. As the fires quickly surrounded the area, Shelley desperately tried to reach emergency services to save her son, but her attempts were met with frustration. According to Shelley, all phone lines were down, and she was unable to get through to 911. In her own words, she said, “Guess what didn’t work, 911.” In a state of panic, she drove to the nearby fire station to seek help, only to be told that they had “no water” to fight the flames.
Shelley recalled the heart-wrenching moment she spoke with her son as the fire closed in. “He said 'Mum, leave me,' and no mum can leave their kid,” she shared. “And I’ve got a broken arm. I couldn’t lift him. I couldn’t move him.” When she returned with the fire department’s help, it was too late. Rory’s cottage had been consumed by the flames, and he had tragically perished, reportedly from carbon monoxide poisoning. Shelley’s words echoed the sorrow that so many parents can relate to: “He was my baby, and he died needlessly.”
The loss of Rory is a heart-shattering reminder of the uncontrollable nature of wildfires and the limitations of emergency services when disaster strikes. While the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District denied Shelley’s claims about the lack of water, the reality of her devastating experience is undeniable.
