Gold Coast Track Overcomes Poison Attack, Magic Millions Set to Shine
The Gold Coast is preparing for one of the most highly anticipated events on the Queensland racing calendar—the Magic Millions race day. Despite a challenging setback last week, when a section of the track was discovered to be poisoned, organizers are confident the race will go ahead smoothly, thanks to extensive repairs.
The incident last Friday had left the future of this weekend's prestigious event hanging in the balance. The Bundall course, where the Gold Coast Turf Club is located, was quickly deemed unsafe, leading officials to move the first day of the event to the Sunshine Coast. A back-up plan was also put in place to shift the $14 million Magic Millions race day to Eagle Farm in Brisbane if the track couldn't be restored in time.

However, the track has passed a crucial test. Six jockeys galloped horses on the repaired section on Thursday morning, and Racing Queensland CEO Jason Scott confirmed that the patch had performed just as well as the rest of the course. The repair team worked tirelessly over the past week, completing the remediation by Tuesday. Their efforts, which included transplanting turf from other sections of the track, were praised by Scott, who called the achievement "amazing."
The repair work was no small feat. In just a few days, an eight-by-25-meter section of the track was restored, a remarkable accomplishment considering the complexity of the task. Scott expressed his gratitude to the contractors and ground staff, emphasizing the collaborative effort that made the repairs possible.
Looking ahead, the Gold Coast Turf Club is confident that the track will withstand the weather forecast for the weekend. While some rain and potential thunderstorms are predicted for Saturday, Scott assured the public that any weather-related challenges would not affect the repaired area of the track.
