India Clinches ODI Series with Dominant Win Over Ireland in Rajkot
In an exciting clash between India and Ireland, India secured a comprehensive 116-run victory in the second ODI at Rajkot, clinching the series with one match still to go. India’s top-order provided a spectacular performance with standout contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored a brilliant 102, and Harleen Deol, who chipped in with 89 runs. The hosts posted a daunting total of 370 for 5 in their 50 overs, a record for India in ODIs.
The match saw India dominate right from the start. After winning the toss and opting to bat, India's openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal gave a solid foundation, putting on a partnership of 156 runs. Mandhana contributed a rapid 73 off 54 balls, while Rawal made a steady 67 from 61 balls. Their impressive stand ensured India set the tone early on a pitch that seemed to favor the batters.

Rodrigues, coming in at number four, played a match-defining knock. Her 102 runs off 91 balls included 12 boundaries, showcasing her elegant stroke play. She shared an invaluable 183-run partnership with Harleen Deol, whose knock of 89 runs came off 84 balls. The duo expertly built pressure on Ireland, frustrating their bowlers and steadily pushing India to an unassailable total.
In reply, Ireland showed promise with Christina Coulter Reilly leading the charge with a career-best 80, but it wasn't enough to challenge India's massive score. Despite a solid start from Sarah Forbes, who made 38 off 63 balls, Ireland lost wickets at regular intervals, making it difficult for them to keep up with the required run rate.
The Indian bowlers, led by Deepti Sharma, who took 3 wickets for 37 runs, maintained control throughout. Sharma, playing her 100th ODI, was exceptional with the ball, along with Priya Mishra, who claimed two wickets. Ireland could only manage to reach 254 for 7, falling short by 116 runs.
The result not only sealed the series for India but also showed the strength of their batting and bowling units. India had already won the first ODI in style, and this victory ensured they would not be denied a series win. As the two teams prepare for the third ODI on Wednesday, India will look to complete a whitewash, while Ireland, despite the defeat, can take positives from their improvement in each game.
This win also marked another milestone in India’s growing dominance in women’s cricket, with their strong performances making them a force to reckon with in global competitions. With Rodrigues' century, India’s all-around effort in Rajkot was a testament to their power and depth in women’s cricket.
