Johnston’s Hat Trick Seals Stars' Thrilling OT Win Over Golden Knights

Wow, what a game last night between the Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights! This one had everything—drama, comebacks, and one heck of a performance by Wyatt Johnston, who completed a natural hat trick and netted the game-winner in overtime. If you’re a Stars fan, you’ve got to love the resilience this team showed.

The Stars found themselves in a tough spot, down 3-1 in the second period. Vegas looked like they were in control, especially with Tomas Hertl extending his point streak to ten games. But Dallas wasn’t ready to fold. Johnston started the comeback with a short-handed goal, then tied things up late in the third period. And when it mattered most, just 20 seconds into overtime, he finished it off with a tap-in off a beautiful Roope Hintz setup on a two-on-one rush. It was electric.

For Johnston, this was a career night—his second NHL hat trick, and he became the youngest player in league history to complete a natural hat trick in overtime. That’s a pretty incredible feat. And let’s not forget Jake Oettinger’s clutch goaltending. He stopped 25 shots, including a huge save on a Shea Theodore breakaway just before the OT winner.

On the other side, Vegas had their chances. Jack Eichel and Pavel Dorofeyev each had a goal and an assist, and Adin Hill made 24 saves. But the Golden Knights couldn’t hold onto their lead, something Mark Stone admitted they needed to do better. “We didn’t really push to make it 4-2 like I would have liked,” Stone said after the game.

One concern for Dallas—Miro Heiskanen left in the third period after a collision with Stone. Coach Pete DeBoer didn’t have an update yet but emphasized that Stone isn’t a dirty player and they’ll just have to wait and see.

At the end of the night, though, this was all about Johnston and the Stars' determination. They’ve now won three in a row and are looking strong. If they keep playing like this, they’re going to be a serious threat down the stretch.
