Kyle Connor’s Hat Trick Powers Jets to a Dominating 6-1 Win Over Canucks
In an explosive first period, Kyle Connor of the Winnipeg Jets made history by scoring a natural hat trick in just 6:38, leading his team to a commanding 6-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The game, held at Canada Life Centre, marked a standout performance for Connor, who also added an assist to cap off a four-point night. His hat trick, one of the fastest in Jets’ history, was key to Winnipeg's impressive win, securing them their 30th victory of the season, the first team in the NHL to reach that milestone.
Connor’s first goal came early in the game, at 6:59, when Vancouver's goaltender Kevin Lankinen mishandled the puck behind his net, turning it over to Gabe Vilardi. Vilardi quickly passed the puck to Connor, who tapped it in for an easy score. Just over six minutes later, Connor was at it again, taking advantage of a rebound from Neal Pionk’s shot and netting a backhander at 13:01. Less than a minute later, Connor completed his natural hat trick with a brilliant breakaway move, deking around Lankinen and scoring at the left post, giving the Jets a dominant 3-0 lead.

The Jets didn’t stop there. Neal Pionk wasted no time adding to the lead, scoring just 39 seconds into the second period with a blistering shot from the point. Then, Nino Niederreiter added another goal at 15:06, using a fortunate bounce off Lankinen’s leg to make it 5-0. Winnipeg’s power play also clicked early in the third period when Mark Scheifele added his own tally just 1:31 in, putting the Jets up 6-0.
Although the Canucks faced a tough night, Nils Hoglander did manage to get one back, scoring for Vancouver at 9:16 of the third period, cutting the lead to 6-1. However, the Canucks’ defense struggled throughout the game, particularly with turnovers and missed opportunities, while the Jets capitalized on every mistake. Winnipeg’s defense also held strong, limiting Vancouver to just 24 shots on goal, with Connor Hellebuyck making 23 saves for the win.
With the victory, the Jets extended their point streak to four games, showcasing their ability to play both offensively and defensively at a high level. Winnipeg’s offensive depth was evident, with contributions from Scheifele, Pionk, and Niederreiter, while Connor’s performance stole the show. Connor's sixth career hat trick was a testament to his continued growth as one of the top goal scorers in the league.
For the Canucks, this loss is part of a disappointing stretch where they've dropped five of their last six games. Despite flashes of potential, Vancouver could not keep up with the Jets’ fast-paced game, and Coach Rick Tocchet noted the team’s struggles with consistency, particularly in the defensive zone.
Looking ahead, the Canucks will return home to host the Los Angeles Kings, while the Jets will continue their homestand with a matchup against the Seattle Kraken. Both teams will need to regroup as they move forward in what promises to be an exciting second half of the season.
