Lambton County’s Festival of Cultures Celebrates Diversity on New Year’s Eve

This New Year's Eve, Lambton County is embracing its cultural diversity with the second annual Festival of Cultures, held at Centennial Park in Sarnia. This vibrant celebration highlights the rich variety of cultures that make up the community, providing a unique and inclusive experience for everyone. The event promises a full afternoon and evening of entertainment, from cultural performances and international food to live DJ music and a spectacular fireworks display.

Organized by Tarndeep Singh, the Festival of Cultures is designed to be a family-friendly, free event, open to all. Singh emphasized the importance of this gathering, explaining that it is a way to celebrate new beginnings while bringing people from all backgrounds together. "It's a fun event where everyone can come and enjoy the new beginnings," he said, underscoring the event’s welcoming and joyous atmosphere.

The idea for the festival came after a survey last year revealed a desire within the community for a New Year’s Eve celebration that embraced diversity. Despite the fog and rain during the inaugural event last year, over 300 people attended, a turnout that inspired the organizers to make it an annual occasion. This year, the festival is expected to be even bigger, with 15 to 20 vendors offering an array of crafts, international foods, and cultural displays.

The event will showcase traditional dances and attire, giving attendees the chance to learn about the many different cultures present in the region. "We want to create events like this where people can learn from each other," said Singh. The goal is not only to celebrate but also to educate and foster understanding among the diverse communities within Lambton County.

The festivities will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, at the Suncor Agora, with fireworks scheduled to light up the sky at 6 p.m. Whether you’re looking to enjoy some delicious food, admire cultural performances, or simply ring in the new year in a festive environment, the Festival of Cultures offers something for everyone. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate unity and the unique traditions that enrich our local community.
