Liverpool Soars with a Dominant Victory Over Ipswich, Gakpo Shines
In a Premier League match that felt almost like a training session, Liverpool took full control over Ipswich Town, thrashing them 4-1 at Anfield. The victory was their 16th in 22 games, as they continued their relentless pursuit of the league title. Arne Slot’s men made it look easy, while Ipswich struggled to get a foothold in the game, suffering from a series of defensive lapses.
The match was essentially decided by halftime. Liverpool was already three goals ahead, with goals coming from Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo. The visitors' defense, already fragile, was no match for the attacking firepower of Liverpool. In the early stages of the game, Ipswich had no response as Liverpool worked the ball with precision, leaving the away side chasing shadows.
The first goal came in the 11th minute when Andy Robertson won the ball back in Ipswich’s half. Liverpool quickly transitioned, with Robertson passing to Ibrahima Konaté, who found Szoboszlai. The Hungarian midfielder, with time on his side, slotted a calm finish past Ipswich keeper Christian Walton.

It wasn’t long before Liverpool doubled their lead. Mohamed Salah, on his 400th appearance in English football, netted his 100th Premier League goal for Liverpool. Gakpo’s well-placed cross was met by Salah, who coolly finished it into the roof of the net. The third came just before the break, with Liverpool exploiting Ipswich’s defensive fragility once more. Ryan Gravenberch’s clever cross found Szoboszlai, whose shot was saved, but Gakpo was there to pounce on the rebound and make it 3-0.
The second half saw a small improvement for Ipswich as they managed a few shots, with Omari Hutchinson testing Alisson. However, their defense remained porous, and Liverpool took advantage. Gakpo scored his second goal in the 72nd minute, heading in from a pinpoint Trent Alexander-Arnold delivery to make it 4-0.
Ipswich, however, did manage to salvage some pride in the final moments. A late header from Jacob Greaves, off a Julio Enciso corner, prevented Liverpool from keeping a clean sheet, but it was little more than a consolation for the away side. The away fans celebrated briefly, but the final whistle confirmed that Liverpool’s victory was well-deserved.
With this result, Liverpool continues to keep pace at the top of the table, proving that their title challenge is no fluke. Despite some minor lapses in concentration, such as the late goal conceded, they looked confident and in control from start to finish. Their attacking players, led by Salah and Gakpo, were at their best, and their overall play showcased just why they are one of the most feared sides in the Premier League.
For Ipswich, this defeat marks a tough stretch, with back-to-back heavy losses highlighting the gap between the top teams and newly-promoted sides. Their passive approach and inability to disrupt Liverpool’s fluid passing and movement left them with little to show for their efforts. Kieran McKenna, the Ipswich manager, will need to reassess his team’s defensive strategy if they are to avoid further heavy defeats as the season progresses.
