Luke Wilson has finally broken his silence on a quirky incident involving his ex-girlfriend Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show on January 9, 2025, Luke recalled hearing about the prank soon after it happened. “It was very odd,” he said. “I went to the coffee shop, and people kept mentioning Drew and Kate trying to call me. I was like, ‘Drew and Kate who?’” He chuckled while recounting how the prank had a “very eighth-grade type feel to it.”
For those unfamiliar with the incident, Barrymore and Hudson tried to prank call Luke live on air, but they accidentally dialed a man named Lucas Wilson instead. The unintentional recipient, who had a minor role in Barrymore’s 1999 film Never Been Kissed , seemed as confused as amused when he realized the mix-up. “You looking for the actor? That’s not me,” Lucas clarified during the call. Drew quickly apologized, explaining, “We’re crank-calling people right now. I’m so sorry!”
Fast forward two years, and Luke’s good-natured reaction proves there are no hard feelings. During the recent interview, Barrymore proposed they “close the circle” by filming a video message for Kate Hudson. Luke jokingly addressed her, saying, “I don’t appreciate being prank called—and neither does the guy you actually called! Next time, just call the right number, and I’ll definitely answer. We miss you!”
This lighthearted exchange brought nostalgic vibes, especially given Barrymore’s past relationship with Luke from 1996 to 1998. Hudson also shares a history with the Wilson family, having dated Owen Wilson from 2006 to 2009. The playful interaction was a delightful reminder of their shared history and easy camaraderie.
As Barrymore wrapped up the segment, she assured the audience—and Luke—that she had finally saved the correct number. For viewers, the moment wasn’t just about the prank but a glimpse into the enduring friendships between Hollywood stars who know how to laugh at life’s little mishaps. The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays on CBS, continuing to serve up candid, feel-good moments like these.
