
Marianela Nuñez Honored with OBE for Her Exceptional Contribution to Dance
Renowned ballet dancer Marianela Nuñez has been awarded the prestigious Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her outstanding contributions to the world of dance. This honor, part of His Majesty The King’s New Year’s Honours, recognizes Nuñez's exceptional artistry and decades of dedication to The Royal Ballet, where she has been a fixture since 1998.
Nuñez, whose career has captivated audiences worldwide, expressed her profound gratitude upon receiving the award. She shared, "I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this OBE. I have been privileged to make The Royal Ballet my dancing home for over a quarter century, and receiving one of this country’s most special honours means the world to me. I am indebted to everyone who has supported me over the years to help communicate the life-affirming power of dance."
A dancer of remarkable technique and emotional depth, Marianela Nuñez joined The Royal Ballet at the age of 20 and rapidly rose through the ranks, being promoted to First Soloist in 2000 and to Principal Dancer just two years later in 2002. Her journey from a young girl training at the Teatro Colón Ballet School in Buenos Aires to becoming one of the most respected names in ballet has been a testament to her hard work, artistry, and passion for the art form.
Throughout her distinguished career, Nuñez has performed in numerous iconic ballets, including those by celebrated choreographers such as Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, and Kenneth MacMillan. Her performances have taken her across the globe, from the Paris Opera Ballet to the Vienna State Opera Ballet and La Scala in Milan, solidifying her reputation as a leading international guest artist. In addition to the OBE, she has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance in 2013 and multiple Best Female Dancer awards at the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards.

In 2025, audiences will continue to be mesmerized by Nuñez’s performances in productions such as Onegin , Romeo and Juliet , and Balanchine: Three Signature Works with The Royal Ballet. Her upcoming engagements also include performances in Rome, where she will showcase pas de deux from Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty , further proving that her passion for dance remains as powerful as ever.
