McDavid's Return Powers Oilers to Victory Over Kraken
Connor McDavid made an electrifying comeback from his three-game suspension, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Place. The Oilers captain, who had been sidelined for cross-checking Vancouver’s Conor Garland, wasted no time making an impact. His rebound goal in the second period tied the game 2-2, setting the tone for Edmonton’s third straight win and their seventh in nine games.
Mattias Ekholm also shone, contributing a goal and an assist, while Mattias Janmark and Corey Perry each added to the scoreboard. Perry’s breakaway goal in the second period, following a sharp setup from Darnell Nurse, proved to be the game-winner. Ekholm sealed the deal with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Calvin Pickard stepped up between the pipes for Edmonton, making 26 saves in a surprise start. With Stuart Skinner absent for the birth of his child, Pickard rose to the occasion, improving to 9-1-0 in his last 10 starts. “Playing behind this team is a blessing,” Pickard said, emphasizing his trust in Edmonton’s depth and ability to deliver.
On the other side, the Kraken started strong, with Eeli Tolvanen and Vince Dunn finding the back of the net. Dunn’s slapshot gave Seattle a brief lead, but the team struggled to capitalize on opportunities, going 0-for-4 on the power play, including a critical 5-on-3 advantage. Kraken coach Dan Bylsma didn’t mince words about the power play’s shortcomings, citing a lack of urgency and execution as key factors in the loss.
Despite their early spark, Seattle couldn’t maintain momentum. Dunn expressed frustration, noting the team’s recurring struggles to close out games against Edmonton. The Kraken’s defensemen have been a bright spot this season, collectively scoring 31 goals, but it wasn’t enough to topple the surging Oilers.
The win reinforces Edmonton’s dominance, with McDavid and Leon Draisaitl continuing to lead the charge. Draisaitl, with 75 points in 50 games, remains among the league’s elite, while McDavid’s return only amplifies the Oilers’ offensive firepower. It’s clear this team expects to win every night—and they’re showing exactly why.
