Montreal Canadiens Edge Utah Hockey Club 5-3 for Eighth Win in Last 10 Games

In a thrilling matchup on Tuesday night, the Montreal Canadiens secured a 5-3 victory over the Utah Hockey Club at Delta Center, continuing their strong run with eight wins in their last ten games. Kirby Dach was the standout player, netting two goals, while Mike Matheson, Patrik Laine, and Cole Caufield also found the back of the net for Montreal. Lane Hutson was instrumental in the victory, providing three assists, while Alexandre Carrier contributed two. Montreal's goalie, Sam Montembeault, made 22 saves, with the Canadiens showing resilience after a rocky start.

The game got off to a tough beginning for Montreal as Utah struck early with a power-play goal just 2:11 into the game. Despite that early setback, Montreal fought back. Matheson, assisted by Caufield and Hutson, opened the scoring for the Canadiens, tying the game 1-1 at 3:18 in the first period. Laine followed with his 10th goal of the season and 400th career point at the 10:40 mark of the second period, giving Montreal a 2-1 lead. Dach’s first goal of the night came late in the second period, pushing the Canadiens ahead 3-2. The Canadiens controlled the game from there, with Caufield tipping in a shot from Hutson early in the third period to make it 4-2.

Dach sealed the victory with his second goal at 16:15 in the third period, with an assist from Carrier. The Utah Hockey Club fought hard but couldn’t recover from the Canadiens' surge, despite a late goal from Logan Cooley at 3:07 of the third period that brought them to within one. The Canadiens’ defense and Montembeault stood firm, keeping Utah at bay and securing the win.

For Utah, the loss was tough but not without positives. Nick Bjugstad had a goal that bounced off Montembeault's back late in the first period, and Logan Cooley’s third-period strike was a bright moment for them. However, despite a strong effort, the team couldn’t find a way to fully capitalize on their chances.

The Canadiens’ victory was a key moment for players like Laine, who reached a career milestone, and Dach, who continues to perform well in his last ten games, scoring his seventh and eighth goals. With Lane Hutson’s three assists, he also made history, becoming the sixth-fastest rookie defenseman in NHL history to record 30 assists.

With the win, the Canadiens now head to Dallas for their next game on Thursday, while Utah will host the New York Rangers the same night. Montreal's continued success proves their growth, resilience, and depth, and they look to keep their momentum going as the season progresses.
