Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden II Black Revive a Legendary Franchise
Exciting news for fans of fast-paced action games: Ninja Gaiden 4 is officially on its way, as announced during Microsoft’s recent Xbox Developer Direct event. The long-awaited sequel marks a thrilling revival for the beloved franchise that has been dormant since Ninja Gaiden 3 in 2012. Developed in collaboration between Team Ninja and PlatinumGames—the creative minds behind Bayonetta and Nier: Automata —the game promises to deliver an intense and polished experience. Fans can expect to dive into this dark and high-octane adventure when it launches in Fall 2025 on Xbox, PS5, and PC, with the added bonus of being available on Game Pass.

The story picks up after the events of Ninja Gaiden 3 , bringing players to a post-apocalyptic Tokyo infested with demons and the minions of the Dark Dragon. Players will once again take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa, the iconic master ninja, but this time he’s joined by a new protagonist: Yakumo, a skilled ninja from the rival Raven clan. Yakumo introduces fresh gameplay mechanics, offering two unique fighting styles—Raven style and Nué style—which allow players to employ both precise single-target strikes and wide-reaching attacks to handle multiple enemies simultaneously. The developers have assured fans that while the game introduces innovative gameplay elements, it will remain true to the gritty, challenging atmosphere that defined the series.
But the surprises didn’t stop there. Alongside the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 , Team Ninja also unveiled Ninja Gaiden II Black , a visually enhanced remake of the 2008 classic Ninja Gaiden II . Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, this remastered version boasts stunning graphics and improved performance. Additionally, players can now battle as beloved characters like Ayane, Momiji, and Rachel. Best of all? Ninja Gaiden II Black is available immediately on Xbox, PS5, PC, and Game Pass, making it a must-play for both longtime fans and newcomers.
With these announcements, it’s clear that Team Ninja is pulling out all the stops to reintroduce Ninja Gaiden to a new generation of gamers. Whether you’re excited to revisit the brutal battles of the past or eager to explore the future of the franchise, this is a thrilling time to be a Ninja Gaiden fan.
