Parents Sue Driver Over Teen's Tragic Death in McCandless Car Crash
The parents of 18-year-old Taylor Orlowski, who tragically lost her life in a car crash at a McCandless intersection, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver, Aiden Saber. This lawsuit, which was filed recently in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, comes after the December 23, 2023, incident that claimed the lives of both Orlowski and 14-year-old Jonathan Tourney. Saber, who was behind the wheel that night, pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle and was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison for the reckless crash.
According to the lawsuit, Orlowski was a senior at Ambridge High School at the time of her death. On the night of the crash, Orlowski, along with her friends and Saber, had attended a small party before setting off in Saber’s 2017 Land Rover SUV. They traveled down Irwin Road, which is notorious locally for its spooky atmosphere, often shrouded in morning fog. The group had gotten out of the vehicle to explore the area but returned shortly after to leave.

The lawsuit claims that, as they drove down Irwin Road toward the Babcock Road intersection, Saber suddenly accelerated the SUV to an alarming speed. Despite the road being narrow and the speed limit only 25 mph, the vehicle was reportedly going over 75 mph. Although some passengers asked Saber to slow down, the driver arrogantly dismissed their concerns, stating, “I got it!”
As they approached a sharp bend in the road, Saber lost control of the vehicle, which ultimately slammed into a tree, splitting the SUV in half. The vehicle traveled about 400 feet before coming to a halt. Tragically, Orlowski was ejected from the vehicle and killed on the spot. Tourney’s older brother, Jeffrey, who was also in the vehicle that night, found his younger brother, Jonathan, who had been ejected as well. Jeffrey cradled Jonathan in his arms until help arrived, but Jonathan succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
This devastating event has left two families in mourning, with the Orlowski family now seeking justice for their daughter’s untimely and avoidable death. The wrongful death lawsuit accuses Saber of negligence and recklessness, seeking accountability for his actions that led to the loss of two young lives. This case highlights not only the heartbreak of a family coping with the loss of a loved one but also the tragic consequences of speeding and reckless driving.
