After a two-year battle with injuries, Reilly Opelka is back on the ATP Tour with a vengeance, bringing new energy and excitement to the court. The American powerhouse, known for his lightning-fast serve and aggressive playing style, kicked off his 2025 season with a bang, claiming an incredible win over Novak Djokovic at the Brisbane International. Opelka, who has had his share of setbacks, including surgeries and prolonged recovery periods, showed the tennis world he's not just back—he’s ready to contend at the highest levels once again.

A noticeable change for Opelka upon his return to competition is his switch from his long-time Wilson Pro Staff racquet to the Tecnifibre TF40. The change came after a thorough testing period in Florida with the Tecnifibre team. According to Opelka, the racquet has given him a newfound sense of confidence, particularly with his groundstrokes and returns. "My game is centered around my serve, so that was the biggest emphasis as I went through this process. But the biggest difference that I felt right away was on my ground strokes. I have more confidence to go after my shots and feel more solid on my returns," he said. This shift to the TF40, now in its third generation, has proven to be a perfect match for Opelka’s playing style, providing him with control, power, and a much-improved feel on the court. The racquet’s foam-filled frame offers a dampened yet connected response, making it a reliable tool for precision and power from all areas of the court.

In addition to his new racquet, Opelka has also partnered with Fila for his apparel and footwear. His new Fila gear includes a sleek Backspin Short Sleeve Crew and matching shorts, designed with performance in mind. These pieces are made with moisture-wicking fabric to keep him dry and comfortable during the most intense rallies, with the added benefit of stylish color-blocking and ventilation panels. For his footwear, Opelka is sporting the Fila Axilus 3, which provides both support and comfort with its breathable mesh upper and responsive cushioning. These shoes are built to handle the quick cuts and powerful movements that define Opelka’s aggressive playing style.

Although Opelka's injury struggles have continued to haunt him, including a back issue that forced him to withdraw from the Brisbane final, he remains optimistic. Tennis experts like Andy Roddick have noted that while back injuries are frustrating, they’re often less concerning than wrist issues, which could be more detrimental in the long run. Opelka himself is determined to overcome this latest hurdle and is working hard to be fit for the Australian Open. If he manages to make a full recovery in time for the tournament, he could be a formidable threat, with his powerful serve and growing confidence in all aspects of his game. His goal for 2025 is to complete a full season on the ATP Tour for the first time since 2022, and with his new gear and renewed determination, it looks like Opelka is poised for a strong comeback on the world stage.
