Saudi Sports Minister Eager for Mohamed Salah to Join the Pro League
The Saudi Pro League is turning heads on the global football stage, with the Kingdom’s sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal, expressing a strong desire to see Mohamed Salah join the league. In an interview that aired recently, the minister was full of admiration for the Egyptian football star, emphasizing that his addition to the Saudi Pro League would be both a pleasure and a privilege. He highlighted the deep cultural and historical ties between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, noting that Salah would be an excellent role model for the league.
Salah’s future at Liverpool has been under intense scrutiny, especially as his contract is set to expire in the summer. Despite his exceptional form this season, with numerous goals and crucial contributions, Salah’s representatives and Liverpool have reportedly not made significant progress in contract negotiations. This has led to growing speculation that Salah could be considering a move away from Anfield, with the Saudi Pro League emerging as a potential destination.

The sports minister made it clear that if the opportunity arises, they would love to see the forward in the Saudi Pro League, as he ticks all the right boxes for the league’s ambitions. "We feel like we are one with the Egyptians, from our culture and history," said Prince Abdulaziz, adding that bringing in role models like Salah would further enhance the profile of Saudi football. However, he noted that the decision ultimately rests with the clubs and the ongoing negotiations.
While the prospect of Salah joining the league is exciting, it’s not just about one player. Saudi Arabia’s success in attracting top talent is part of a larger strategy to elevate the league’s global stature. The kingdom’s recent success in securing the right to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup is a testament to its growing influence in the world of football. As the country prepares to host this prestigious tournament, the idea of hosting more world-class players like Salah only seems to add to the excitement.
Additionally, Prince Abdulaziz touched on the debate surrounding the scheduling of the 2034 World Cup. Drawing from the lessons learned during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which was held in the winter, he suggested that a similar scheduling might be considered. With European leagues adjusting to a mid-season break, the winter World Cup proved to be a success, as it allowed players to be in peak form and gave fans a unique experience. The minister emphasized that discussions with FIFA are still ongoing and that the ultimate goal would be to provide the best experience for fans.
While the details of the World Cup’s schedule remain undecided, one thing is clear: Saudi Arabia is making bold strides in transforming its football scene. The potential signing of Mohamed Salah would undoubtedly mark a significant milestone in this transformation. As the Saudi Pro League continues to grow and attract attention, the excitement around a possible Salah move to the Kingdom only adds to the intrigue surrounding Saudi football’s future.
