On January 15, 2025, the court in Regina, Saskatchewan, finalized a $6 million settlement, compensating up to one million Canadians who bought tickets for events between January 1 and June 30, 2018.

This class-action suit was initiated by Crystal Watch, who argued that Ticketmaster's practices were in direct violation of Canada's Consumer Protection and Business Practices Act. Although Ticketmaster did not admit to any wrongdoing, the company agreed to settle without going to trial. This decision, endorsed by Justice Graeme Mitchell, is seen as an important step forward in ensuring that consumers are protected from misleading pricing tactics. Justice Mitchell stressed the significance of the case, saying that it exemplifies how class actions can serve as a viable tool for pursuing justice in such matters.

For those who qualify, the settlement means that they will receive credits of up to $45, which can be applied to future ticket purchases on Ticketmaster. However, this compensation is only available to individuals who purchased tickets for events in the specified timeframe, and it excludes residents of Quebec and current Ticketmaster employees. The credit is transferable, but it can only be used once. According to Tony Merchant, the lawyer representing the plaintiffs, it is estimated that around 100,000 people in Saskatchewan and up to one million Canadians could be eligible for this compensation. After deducting legal fees of $1.7 million, approximately $4.3 million will be allocated to customer credits.

Ticketmaster is expected to notify eligible consumers via email with instructions on how to claim their credits. If anyone believes they are eligible but does not receive an email, they are encouraged to reach out to the law firm for further assistance. This case serves as a reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding ticket pricing transparency, especially within industries like event sales, where customers often face a complex and sometimes misleading purchasing process due to added service charges.
