Tragic Incident at Toronto's Ashbridges Bay Leaves One Dead After Car Plunges Into Water
On the evening of January 19, 2025, a tragic event unfolded at Ashbridges Bay in Toronto, which resulted in the death of one woman. Emergency services were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. after reports surfaced of a vehicle having plunged into the icy waters near Ashbridges Bay Park Road, located south of Lake Shore Boulevard East and Lower Coxwell Avenue. Crews from both Toronto Fire and paramedics quickly responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered a person on the roof of the submerged vehicle, who informed rescuers that another individual was still trapped inside. Firefighters bravely worked to extricate the trapped occupant, and both individuals were quickly transported to the hospital. Tragically, despite efforts to save her, the female passenger succumbed to her injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

This harrowing accident also impacted the first responders. In total, four officers were hospitalized for treatment after being exposed to the elements during the rescue operation. They have since been released.
