Two Killed and 19 Injured in Fullerton Plane Crash

A tragic incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Fullerton, California, when a small plane crashed into the roof of a business, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring 19 others. The crash took place around 2 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Raymer Avenue, near Fullerton Municipal Airport. The aircraft, identified as a home-built Van's RV-10, had just taken off from the airport and was reportedly attempting to return for an emergency landing when it crashed into a commercial building, triggering a fiery explosion and a plume of thick black smoke.

Witnesses describe the scene as chaotic, with the crash causing panic among workers inside the building. The business, Michael Nicholas Designs, specializes in furniture manufacturing and had around 200 employees at the time of the crash. While the two deceased individuals were believed to have been inside the aircraft, those injured were primarily workers at the business. Eleven of the injured were rushed to local hospitals, and eight others received treatment at the scene. At the moment, the condition of the hospitalized victims remains unclear.

Authorities believe that the pilot of the plane had contacted air traffic control, reporting an issue shortly after taking off. However, it's still uncertain what led to the crash. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the accident to determine the cause.

This tragic event has left the Fullerton community in shock. Local residents, first responders, and witnesses have expressed their sympathy and support for those affected. The Fullerton Police Department and fire crews were quick to respond to the scene, battling the fire and evacuating nearby businesses to ensure safety. The mayor of Fullerton has offered condolences and vowed to provide assistance to the victims and their families during this difficult time.

The Fullerton Municipal Airport, a hub for general aviation in Orange County, is located near residential neighborhoods and busy commercial areas. The airport's single runway and proximity to train lines and other infrastructure make it a vital part of the area, though it has seen other small-plane accidents in the past. In November 2024, a small plane crashed into a tree near the airport, though the injuries were much less severe in that incident.

As the investigation unfolds, the community and authorities continue to process the impact of this devastating crash.
