The Boeing 787-800, carrying 245 passengers, 11 crew members, and three pilots, departed Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 11:59 p.m. on January 23. However, just a few hours into the journey, the flight encountered a technical issue combined with unexpected aircraft movement, prompting the pilots to make an emergency return. The aircraft landed safely back in Lagos at 3:22 a.m. on January 24.

While the situation was handled swiftly, it unfortunately resulted in injuries onboard. According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, six individuals, including four passengers and two crew members, sustained serious injuries. Another 27 passengers and five crew members reported minor injuries. Emergency medical teams acted promptly, providing first aid to those with minor injuries, who were discharged shortly after. The more seriously injured were stabilized and transferred to the Duchess Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, for further treatment.
