'A Court of Thorns and Roses' TV Series Scrapped at Hulu—What’s Next?
Well, folks, it’s official—Hulu’s highly anticipated adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) is no longer happening. After years of development limbo, Disney’s 20th Television has officially pulled the plug, leaving fans of Sarah J. Maas’ bestselling fantasy series wondering what’s next.
If you’ve been following the ACOTAR adaptation saga, you know it’s been a rollercoaster. The project was first announced back in 2021, with Maas herself working on the scripts alongside Outlander creator Ronald D. Moore. But after years of silence—and, of course, the 2023 Hollywood strikes slowing down scripted productions—many had already started speculating that the show might never make it to our screens. Now, we finally have confirmation: Hulu is no longer moving forward with the series, and as of now, it’s not being picked up by any other platform.

So, does this mean ACOTAR is completely dead in the water? Not necessarily. Given the massive success of book-to-screen fantasy adaptations like Shadow and Bone and The Witcher , it’s likely that other networks or streaming services might jump at the opportunity to bring Prythian to life.
For those unfamiliar with the books, A Court of Thorns and Roses follows 19-year-old Feyre Archeron, a huntress who unknowingly kills a faerie in the woods and is taken to the magical land of Prythian as punishment. What starts as a Beauty and the Beast -style romance soon spirals into a world of political intrigue, ancient curses, and breathtaking battles. With five books already published and a sixth on the way, there’s plenty of material to adapt—if the right studio is willing to take on the challenge.
So, where does that leave fans? Right now, it’s a waiting game. While Hulu has bowed out, the possibility of ACOTAR finding a new home isn’t off the table. It’s frustrating, but if we’ve learned anything from the world of fantasy adaptations, it’s that nothing is ever truly over until the final decision is made.
