Acclaimed Director Lars von Trier Admitted to Care Facility Amid Parkinson’s Battle
Renowned Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier, known for his bold and often controversial cinematic work, has been admitted to a care facility as he continues his fight against Parkinson’s disease. The news was confirmed by his production company, Zentropa, with producer Louise Vesth sharing an update on social media. She emphasized that while von Trier remains in his private residence, he is now receiving additional care to manage his condition.

Von Trier, who publicly revealed his diagnosis in 2022 at the age of 66, has been battling the progressive neurological disorder while continuing to pursue his passion for filmmaking. The director, known for films like Dancer in the Dark , Melancholia , and Breaking the Waves , has long been a polarizing figure in the industry, admired for his artistic vision yet frequently stirring controversy.
His career took a turbulent turn in 2011 when he made highly controversial remarks at the Cannes Film Festival, where he claimed to "understand" Hitler.
