Burnley Dominate Sheffield Wednesday with a Resounding 4-0 Victory
Burnley delivered a statement performance with a commanding 4-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Turf Moor. The win keeps them firmly in the Championship race, narrowing the gap with the league’s top two. Burnley manager Scott Parker, who watched from the stands due to a one-game touchline ban, praised his team’s resilience and clinical finishing.
The game started with Burnley looking a bit sluggish, lacking their usual energy. However, a crucial goal just before halftime shifted the momentum completely. Marcus Edwards, making his first start for the club since joining on loan from Sporting, broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute. A slick one-two with Josh Cullen, a fortunate deflection off Sheffield Wednesday’s Shea Charles, and some sharp footwork saw Edwards calmly slot the ball home. It was a tough blow for Wednesday, who had actually started brightly, creating several good chances in the opening 20 minutes but failing to convert.

The second half saw Burnley step up a gear. Josh Brownhill, coming on as a substitute in the 62nd minute, made an immediate impact by scoring just moments later. A well-worked corner saw Jaidon Anthony whip in a dangerous cross, and Brownhill was on hand to finish from close range. Just eight minutes later, Connor Roberts found himself completely unmarked in the box and easily tapped in another Anthony assist, putting the game beyond doubt.
The final goal was the icing on the cake. Manuel Benson, making his first appearance since returning from injury, showcased his individual brilliance. Given too much space on the edge of the box, he curled a stunning shot into the net, sealing Burnley’s emphatic victory.
Parker was full of praise for his team’s defensive resilience, noting that they take pride in keeping clean sheets. Despite some early pressure from Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley once again proved why they have one of the best defensive records in the league. The visitors had their moments, with Josh Windass and Stuart Armstrong missing key opportunities, but their lack of cutting edge ultimately cost them.
With Leeds and Sheffield United set to clash on Monday, Burnley’s victory puts pressure on the top two. They have now extended their unbeaten run and continue to look like serious promotion contenders. For Sheffield Wednesday, however, it’s back to the drawing board as they struggle to climb out of the lower half of the table.
