Clemson Baseball Ready for Season Opener Against Oklahoma State
Clemson Baseball is officially back, and the excitement is through the roof as the Tigers gear up for their season opener against No. 17 Oklahoma State. For the first time in 20 years, Clemson won’t be opening at Doug Kingsmore Stadium but instead at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as part of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown. First pitch is set for noon EST on Friday, and there’s a lot riding on this game.
Last season ended in heartbreak, with Florida walking off in the Super Regional. That bitter memory has fueled Clemson all offseason, giving this team a sense of urgency and a chip on their shoulders. Head coach Erik Bakich has seen the fire in his players, and he’s confident they’re ready to take the next step. "Excited for Team 128," Bakich said. "They've been working hard, staying consistent, and using last season’s ending as motivation."

Playing at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, will be a unique experience for the Tigers. It’s a massive venue, and Bakich wants his team to take it all in—but also to remember that, at the end of the day, it’s still baseball. He’s planning a “Hoosiers moment,” referencing the classic 1986 sports film, where the coach reminds his players that the dimensions of the court—just like the baseball field—are the same, no matter how big the stadium feels. "It's still 60 feet, six inches. Still 90-foot bases. Once the game starts, it’s just baseball," Bakich emphasized.
However, Clemson will have to start their season without their head coach on the field. Bakich is serving a two-game suspension following his ejection in last season’s finale, leaving assistant coach Nick Schnabel in charge for the Oklahoma State and Arizona matchups. Even without their leader in the dugout, the Tigers know their mission—compete, win, and set the tone for a deep postseason run.
Clemson’s schedule in Arlington is no cakewalk. After facing Oklahoma State on Friday, they take on No. 21 Arizona on Saturday, followed by a matchup against Ole Miss on Sunday. These early tests will reveal a lot about this team’s potential. With a talented roster and a hunger to return to the College World Series for the first time since 2010, the Tigers are locked in and ready to make a statement.
