Club Brugge Stun Atalanta to Reach Champions League Last 16
What a night of football at the Gewiss Stadium! Atalanta came in with hopes of overturning a 2-1 deficit from the first leg, but Club Brugge had other plans. The Belgian side delivered a stunning first-half performance, scoring three goals to all but seal their place in the Champions League last 16.
It took just three minutes for Club Brugge to make their mark. Chemsdine Talbi , the 19-year-old sensation, slotted home after a parried shot fell kindly to him. The young midfielder wasn't done yet. In the 27th minute , he struck again, showing composure beyond his years to double Brugge's advantage. The home crowd was in shock.

Atalanta pushed forward, desperate to respond. They were inches away from pulling one back when Davide Zappacosta and Juan Cuadrado both struck the post in a frantic sequence. But just when it seemed Atalanta might gain some momentum, Club Brugge struck a killer blow . Right before halftime, Ferran Jutglà finished off a rapid counterattack, making it 3-0 before the break . They needed something special in the second half, and Ademola Lookman gave them hope almost instantly. Just 34 seconds after coming on , he fired in a low shot to pull one back for the home side. Atalanta’s belief was reignited, and when Cuadrado was brought down in the box , it looked like they had a real chance. But Simon Mignolet , the experienced Club Brugge goalkeeper, had other ideas—he dived low to deny Lookman from the penalty spot.
Things went from bad to worse for Atalanta as their captain, Rafael Tolói, saw red in the 87th minute for an unnecessary shove on Maxim De Cuyper . With a man down and time running out, Atalanta’s hopes were officially crushed.
As the final whistle blew, Club Brugge celebrated a historic victory . This was their first away win in Italy in over two decades, and they did it in style. The Belgian side now awaits their fate in the last-16 draw, where they could face Aston Villa or Lille .
