Cooper DeJean Honors Iowa Roots in Super Bowl 59 Victory
What a night for Cooper DeJean! The Philadelphia Eagles' rookie cornerback had an unforgettable 24 hours—starting with his 22nd birthday and ending with a Super Bowl 59 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22. In front of a packed crowd at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, DeJean helped his team secure the Lombardi Trophy in dominant fashion.
"It's crazy," DeJean said after the game. "To be able to do it with this group of guys. From day one, the veterans took us in and showed us the ropes. To win it all on my birthday, and Saquon's (Barkley’s) birthday too, it’s just surreal."

But beyond the game itself, what stood out was DeJean’s deep pride for his Iowa roots. Before kickoff, while many of his teammates arrived in high-end designer suits, DeJean made his entrance in something much more meaningful—his OABCIG High School letterman jacket. A symbol of where it all started, the jacket paid tribute to the small town of Odebolt, Iowa, where he grew up and became a standout athlete.
And he didn’t stop there. On the field, DeJean made a massive impact, finishing the game with three tackles, a key pass deflection, and an electrifying interception that he returned 38 yards for a touchdown. The moment was even more special because of what he had on his feet—custom Nike Air Jordan cleats featuring the area code of western Iowa, “712.”
After the game, DeJean took to social media to shout out his college football roots as well. "Developed at the University of Iowa 🐤🐤🐤," he posted, making it clear that his journey from small-town Iowa to the NFL’s biggest stage was something he’ll always carry with pride.
It was a night of celebration not just for DeJean but for everyone who has supported him along the way. His girlfriend, Steph Wilfawn, was in the stands cheering him on and later shared a heartfelt two-word Instagram post: “Happy Birthday.” The win, the birthday, and the perfect tribute to his hometown—Super Bowl 59 was truly a moment to remember for Cooper DeJean.
