Dwayne Johnson and It Takes Two: What’s Going On With the Film Adaptation?
Remember back in 2021 when the popular co-op platformer It Takes Two from Hazelight Studios made waves? Well, there was big news that it would be getting a movie adaptation with none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson attached to the project. It sounded like a dream come true for fans of the game and those hoping to see it come to life on the big screen. However, nearly three years later, the silence surrounding the film has been deafening, and the people involved, including the game's creator, Josef Fares, are left scratching their heads.
Fares, known for his outspoken personality, recently spoke to Eurogamer and shared his thoughts about the adaptation's uncertain future. He admitted that even he doesn't know what's going on with the movie. "Hollywood, there’s so much bulls**t," Fares explained, reflecting his frustration with the industry's lack of follow-through. He continued, saying that while a lot of meetings are held, very little actually gets done. "Ninety percent of the meetings are bullshit, and ten percent are what actually happens," Fares said candidly.

Despite his disillusionment, Fares is not completely giving up hope. While his expectations are low at the moment, he still believes that there could be something worthwhile in the works for the It Takes Two adaptation. "I don’t know what’s going on, but hopefully something happens," he said. "It would be cool to get something out of it, but my hopes are not so high." If he had his way, Fares believes that if he spent a couple of months in Hollywood, he could make the project happen. However, given his commitments to other projects, he doesn’t have the time to push it forward himself.
One of the big questions is whether Dwayne Johnson, who was originally attached to the project, is even aware of what’s happening. Fares doesn’t think so. In fact, he doubts that Johnson has even been involved with the film beyond his name being tied to the production. When asked if he could imagine Johnson playing one of the tiny characters in the game, he was firm in his response: "No, no, no." He also pointed out that Johnson might not even know what It Takes Two is all about, speculating that it might just be his company’s involvement rather than him taking a personal interest in the project.
With It Takes Two having sold an impressive 20 million copies since its release, the potential for the film adaptation remains high. Fans are still holding out hope, but the uncertainty surrounding the project has cast a shadow over its future. For now, it seems that the movie is stuck in limbo, with little news or movement on the horizon. Hopefully, as time goes on, things will start to fall into place, but for now, it’s a waiting game with no clear answers.
