Halle Berry Champions Menopause Advocacy and Empowerment for Women in Midlife
Halle Berry is on a mission to change the narrative around menopause and the struggles women face as they navigate this phase of life. At 58 years old, she’s not just speaking out about her own experiences but also actively creating a space for women to connect, learn, and receive support through this transformative period. Her recent initiative, Respin Health, focuses on offering practical tools and a supportive community to women experiencing menopause.
Berry’s journey into menopause advocacy began with her own misdiagnosis. She was initially told she had herpes, but it turned out she was dealing with vaginal atrophy, a condition related to menopause. This misdiagnosis sparked a deeper interest in understanding menopause and its symptoms, which led her to rethink everything she knew about the condition. Her goal is to ensure that other women don’t have to go through menopause feeling isolated or misunderstood.

In her interview, she shared her excitement about Respin Health’s new direction, which emphasizes menopause care. The platform now offers four core pillars: community, content, commerce, and care. Women can connect with one another, learn about the changes happening in their bodies, and access menopause-related products and expert health coaching. These coaches, all midlife women themselves, come with diverse backgrounds in nutrition, exercise science, psychology, and more, offering personalized treatment plans that take into account each woman's unique needs and preferences.
Berry has a particular passion for the community aspect of the platform. She recalled how valuable it was to connect with other women who understood what she was going through. During her own struggles with brain fog, one of the most common menopause symptoms, hearing other women share similar experiences made her feel less alone. “Just getting to share my story with another woman and her saying the same thing happened to me—right away, that community made me feel better about myself,” she reflected. This sense of camaraderie has been one of the most rewarding parts of her advocacy work.
In addition to running Respin Health, Halle Berry has also been actively pushing for more awareness and funding for menopause research. She recently joined a bipartisan group of senators to advocate for $275 million in federal funding to advance menopause-related clinical trials and education, including hormone therapy, a treatment that has often been misunderstood. According to Berry, this issue is not political but a human rights matter, given that menopause affects half of the global population.
Through her platform and legislative efforts, Berry aims to break the silence surrounding menopause and ensure that women receive the care and attention they deserve during this crucial phase of life. Her vision is clear: menopause shouldn’t be something women are forced to “white-knuckle” through, but a journey where they are supported and empowered to live their best lives.
