What a night of football at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys! Barcelona and Atlético Madrid played out an absolutely chaotic 4-4 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, and it was a rollercoaster from start to finish.

Atlético came flying out of the blocks, stunning Barça with two quick goals. Julián Álvarez struck in the very first minute, and Antoine Griezmann doubled the lead just five minutes later. But Barcelona, showing incredible resilience, fought back in style. Pedri and young Pau Cubarsí found the net in quick succession to level things up by the 21st minute. Then, just before halftime, Iñigo Martínez put Barcelona ahead, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

The second half saw Robert Lewandowski add another in the 74th minute, making it 4-2. It looked like Barcelona had completed a remarkable turnaround, but Atlético refused to go down without a fight. Marcos Llorente pulled one back in the 84th minute, and then, in stoppage time, Alexander Sørloth silenced the crowd with a dramatic equalizer.

After the match, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was visibly frustrated. While he praised his team’s overall performance and fighting spirit, he was furious about the defensive lapses that cost them the win. “Some time after the end of the match, it’s still not easy to find the right words,” he admitted. “At the end, we are really disappointed about the result. The fourth goal—I am really angry about that. There was no pressure on the ball. This is not how we do it.”

Despite his frustration, Flick remains confident that his team can still reach the final. “We are a young team, we have to improve,” he said. “It’s not the best result, but we have one match more, and I think we are able to win there.”

Now, Barcelona must wait until April for the return leg at Atlético’s Metropolitano Stadium. The winner will face either Real Madrid or Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final. One thing is for sure—if the second leg is anything like this one, we’re in for another unforgettable night of football!
