Major Snowstorm Hits Toronto: Heavy Snow, Closures, and Travel Disruptions
Alright, folks, if you’re in Toronto or anywhere in the GTA, brace yourselves—because a major winter storm is here, and it's hitting hard. A snowfall warning is in effect, and we’re looking at anywhere between 15 to 30 centimeters of snow by Thursday morning. That’s right, a full-on winter wallop that’s already causing school closures, transit delays, and dangerous road conditions.
If you’re heading out, expect a messy commute. Snow began falling earlier today, and by the time we hit the evening rush hour, it’s only going to get worse. The City of Toronto has even declared a “major snowstorm condition” , which means plows will be working overtime to clear the roads. But let’s be real—driving is going to be treacherous.

Speaking of roads, TTC and GO Transit are already feeling the impact. Some bus routes, including the Dufferin bus , have modified stops due to unsafe conditions. There’s also a special GO Transit schedule in effect tomorrow, so if you rely on transit, make sure to check ahead before heading out. On top of that, subway service on the Bloor-Danforth line was briefly suspended earlier due to an injury on the tracks, further complicating things for commuters.
Schools are also shutting down. The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and York Region District School Board have already canceled evening programs, and we might be looking at a snow day for students tomorrow —though an official decision will come early in the morning.
Even attractions aren’t spared— the Toronto Zoo has announced it will be closed on Thursday due to the heavy snowfall, prioritizing the safety of staff, visitors, and animals.
If you’re flying out of Pearson Airport , check your flight status because delays and cancellations are piling up. The storm is not just affecting Toronto— Southern Ontario could see up to 40 cm of snow , with freezing rain expected in parts of the GTA and Hamilton .
Bottom line: stay off the roads if you can, bundle up, and be prepared for a major snowstorm. We’ll keep you posted with updates, but for now—stay safe, stay warm, and if you were hoping for a snow day, you just might get lucky!
