Major TPG Outage Leaves Thousands Without Internet Across Australia
Hey everyone, let's talk about the major internet outage that hit TPG and several other broadband providers today. If you're struggling with your connection or wondering why your home or business internet is down, you're definitely not alone.
Earlier this evening, TPG’s fixed broadband services went offline, affecting thousands—possibly millions—of customers across Australia. And it’s not just TPG. Other major providers under the TPG Telecom umbrella, including Vodafone, iiNet, Internode, and Kogan, have also been impacted.
The outage began just after 5 PM, and reports suggest that a power issue at a major Sydney data centre was to blame. Since a large portion of TPG’s internet traffic runs through this Sydney hub, many of the affected users are based in New South Wales. Although power has been restored, customers are still reporting ongoing disruptions as services gradually come back online.

Now, TPG has acknowledged the issue, and they’ve issued an apology, but they haven’t provided a clear estimate of when things will be fully back to normal. In fact, the lack of immediate communication has frustrated a lot of users, many of whom have taken to social media to vent their concerns.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) called out the company, saying, "Any chance you can actually communicate with your customers? The fact that your website is also down just makes things worse." Another user sarcastically remarked, "I love the hold music on your customer support line... but after 20 minutes, it loses its charm." Clearly, people are not happy.
This outage is raising serious questions about the reliability of Australia’s internet infrastructure. We’ve already seen massive disruptions from other providers, like last year’s Optus outage. And now, here we are again—another major provider, another widespread failure, and customers left in the dark.
If you’re still experiencing issues, the best thing you can do is restart your modem occasionally and keep an eye on TPG’s social media for updates—because, ironically, their website is also down. Hopefully, things will be back up and running soon. But if this outage has you reconsidering your internet provider, you’re not alone.
