Major Winter Storm Hits Quebec – Up to 40 cm of Snow Expected

Alright, folks, buckle up because winter is about to hit us hard! Environnement Canada has issued a major winter storm warning for several regions in Quebec, with snowfall expected to reach up to 40 centimeters by Thursday evening. If you’ve got plans to be on the road, think twice because conditions are going to be rough.

Starting late tonight, the snow will begin to fall steadily, and by the time we wake up Thursday morning, many areas will already be buried under 10 to 15 centimeters. But that’s just the beginning! Throughout the day, the storm will intensify, with an additional 15 to 25 centimeters expected, creating hazardous driving conditions and reducing visibility due to strong winds and blowing snow.

Montreal is bracing for a significant impact, with snow beginning overnight and continuing through the day on Thursday. Even though temperatures will be slightly milder, that won’t stop the snow from piling up. The hardest-hit areas could see over 35 centimeters of snow before the storm finally moves out.

And let’s talk about the wind—this isn’t just a snowstorm; it’s going to be a full-on blizzard in some areas. Gusts between 50 and 70 km/h will whip the snow around, making travel extremely dangerous. If you must go out, make sure you’re prepared with emergency supplies, and let someone know your route and estimated arrival time.

But before the storm arrives, enjoy today’s sunny but chilly weather. It’s the calm before the storm, so use this time wisely—stock up on essentials, get your winter gear ready, and if possible, clear your schedule for Thursday.

Environnement Canada and public safety officials strongly recommend staying off the roads if possible. If you have to travel, drive with extreme caution, and keep an emergency kit in your car.

Stay safe, stay warm, and get ready—winter is showing its full force this week!
