Marner Leads Maple Leafs Past Oilers in Thrilling 4-3 Victory
What a game in Edmonton! The Toronto Maple Leafs snapped their three-game losing streak with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Oilers at Rogers Place. It was a high-intensity battle right from the start, with the Leafs jumping out to a commanding lead early on, only to fend off a late push from the Oilers.
Mitch Marner was the star of the night, picking up a goal and an assist to help lead Toronto to victory. Auston Matthews also chipped in with two assists, and goaltender Joseph Woll was outstanding between the pipes, stopping an incredible 45 shots to keep the Leafs in control. Toronto came out flying in the first period, scoring three goals in just over six minutes. William Nylander got things started with a perfectly placed wrist shot to beat Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner. Not long after, Matthew Knies capitalized on a power play, tucking in a rebound off a Matthews shot. Then Bobby McMann extended the lead to 3-0, converting another power-play opportunity to put the Leafs in full control.

The Oilers, however, were not about to go down quietly. Evan Bouchard got them on the board in the second period with a booming slap shot, cutting the deficit to 3-1. But just seconds into the third, Marner restored Toronto’s three-goal cushion with a slick move that saw the puck deflect off him and past Skinner.
Edmonton kept pressing, though. Zach Hyman and Corey Perry each scored to make it a one-goal game, bringing the home crowd to its feet. And in what could have been a game-tying moment, Leon Draisaitl thought he had made it 4-4 with just over two minutes left, blasting a one-timer past Woll. But after a coach’s challenge, the goal was overturned due to an offside entry, keeping the Leafs in front.
Woll stood tall in the final moments, making key saves to preserve the win. After the game, he spoke about the electric atmosphere and how the team battled hard to secure the two points. Leafs coach Craig Berube acknowledged the team’s effort, while also noting they could have done a better job closing the game out.
With this win, the Leafs improve to 31-19-2 as they continue their road trip through the Pacific Division. Meanwhile, the Oilers, who had been on a strong 3-0-1 run, now sit at 32-16-4. Both teams now shift their focus toward the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, where several of tonight’s stars will represent their countries on the international stage.
What a game, what a finish! The Leafs get back in the win column in dramatic fashion, and this one will be talked about for a while.
